Six-time Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship winners Bob & Mike Bryan will once again headline the doubles field when the tournament takes place April 6-14 at River Oaks Country Club.
The Bryans are among 10 teams on the initial entry list for the ATP 250. In addition, the tournament has awarded its first wild card to Australians Lleyton Hewitt and Jordan Thompson. Hewitt, who won the 2001 US Open doubles with 2018 US Clay winner Max Mirnyi, won the singles title at River Oaks in 2009.
Two teams in the field have won titles already in 2019. The Bryans picked up their 117th team title at Delray Beach in February. That same week, Frenchmen Jeremy Chardy and Fabrice Martin were victorious in Marseille. Chardy also won the previous week, claiming the title in Rotterdam with Henri Kontinen.
Chardy and Thompson are two of the five singles players who will double up at River Oaks, joined by Nick Kyrgios, Taylor Fritz and Reilly Opelka.
The Bryans will be making their 17th US Clay appearance. They own a 40-10 record at the event. This year marks the 20th anniversary of their reaching their first-ever ATP final at the US Clay Court Championship, which was held in Orlando in 1999. The California twins have finished 10 seasons as the No. 1 ranked team in the world.
