The Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship has announced the 2022 tournament will take place April 2-10 at River Oaks Country Club following the approval of next season’s schedule by the ATP Tour.
“We are so incredibly excited to bring the ATP back to River Oaks. With the confirmation of our dates, we can officially begin counting down the days until we can do that,” said Tournament Director Bronwyn Greer. “We intend to spend the next 300-plus days planning for our best-ever tournament, packing three event’s worth of fun into our one week in 2022.”
The last staging of the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship was in 2019, when then 22-year-old Cristian Garin defeated 20-year-old Casper Ruud for the singles title. It was the first of the five titles Garin has won in his career while rising to No. 23 in the ATP Rankings, though Ruud has surpassed him to be ranked No. 21.
In doubles, Santiago Gonzalez and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi teamed up for the 2019 title, defeating six-time champions Bob & Mike Bryan in the semifinals in what would be the final ATP Tour match in Houston for the California twins before their retirement in August 2020.
Season tickets will go on sale Nov. 1, while daily tickets and the popular Champs Pass, which includes the final three days of action, will go on sale on 12.12 (Dec. 12).
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament was not held in 2020 or 2021. Since its inception in 1910, the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship had been held every year except 1928. River Oaks has hosted tournament tennis since 1931, with the exception of 1942-45, including serving as the home for US Clay since 2008.
