Fifteen matches fill a very crowded schedule Wednesday at the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship.
Play on Court 3 and Court 7 begins an hour early to accommodate all the action during the day. Kicking off the matches on Court 3 will be Horacio Zeballos, a former semifinalist at River Oaks taking on Rogerio Dutra Silva, who is playing this week at career high rankings following a title run last week at a Challenger in Panama.
A pair of 20-year-old NextGenATP stars are also will also be in action. American Jared Donaldson is taking on qualifier Maximo Gonzalez while South Korea’s Hyeon Chung, a quarterfinalist here in 2016, faces Victor Estrella Burgos, who won an ATP event on clay in Quito in February.
On Center Court, former champion Fernando Verdasco leads off play against South African Kevin Anderson. Two more NextGenATP stars follow, with 19-year-old Frances Tiafoe facing No. 8 seed Thomaz Bellucci and 20-year-old Ernesto Escobedo facing Tennys Sandgren, who is playing his first career ATP match.
Two-time semifinalist Feliciano Lopez opens the night session against American Bjorn Fratangelo, who is a French Open junior champion.
Bob & Mike Bryan, the twin brothers who form the most accomplished team in tennis history will cap the busy day when they face Leander Paes and Andre Sa. The Bryans are six-time tournament champions, and have combined to win 112 titles and 1,013 titles together in their record-setting career.
