Two-time semifinalist Feliciano Lopez will return to River Oaks Country Club for the 2018 Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship which will take place April 7-15.
The Spaniard reached the semifinals on his River Oaks debut in 2012, falling to American favorite John Isner. Lopez returned to that stage just two years ago, where he was ousted by eventual champion Juan Monaco. He has reached the quarterfinals or better on four of his five appearances at the U.S. Clay.
Lopez has enjoyed one of the longest careers among active players on the ATP World Tour. He has held a ranking since 1996, and made his ATP-level debut in 1998.
Each of the past 11 seasons, Lopez has finished in the Top 50 of the ATP Rankings. He has played 63 consecutive Grand Slam events – dating back to the 2002 French Open, and will equal Roger Federer’s record of 64 straight Majors at this year’s French.
Lopez has won six titles in his career, four of which have come after his 30th birthday, and has been in at least one final in each of the past five seasons.
Not only will Lopez be competing in the singles event, but also the doubles. He will partner with fellow countryman Marc Lopez (no relation), a man he has seen a fair bit of success with the last few years.
Together, Feliciano and Marc have won a pair of titles, both in 2016, Their first triumph came in Doha, and later that season they won the French Open, the only Grand Slam victory for either player. The pair also reached the final at last year’s US Open. Following this year’s Australian Open, the Spanish duo was two wins shy of 50 victories together in their career.
Marc has enjoyed doubles success with a number of his countrymen, including winning a gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics with Rafael Nadal and the 2012 ATP World Tour Finals with Marcel Granollers, the 2008 US Clay singles champion.
Felicano has won three ATP doubles titles from 14 finals, while Marc has claimed 13 titles in 32 final appearances.
