A trio of top Americans will return to River Oaks Country Club for the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship April 8-16. Former champion John Isner will be joined by two-time finalist Sam Querrey and four-time NCAA champion Steve Johnson in the singles draw.
Isner won the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship title in 2013, one year after reaching the final. At No. 19 in the Emirate ATP Rankings, he is the No. 1 ranked American. The 10-time ATP titleist makes his way back to River Oaks for the tenth time.
Querrey returns to the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship where he has reached the final twice – in 2015, losing to Jack Sock, and 2010, losing to Juan Ignacio Chela. The Southern California resident owns 13 career wins in the tournament at River Oaks, tying him with Isner for the most among active players.
Johnson, who reached a career high ranking of world No.21 earlier this year, will make his fifth appearance at the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship. The former University of Southern California standout won his first career ATP title last spring at Nottingham, defeating two top 20 players en route.
The American trio joins previously announced Feliciano Lopez in the singles draw. Lopez, a 2012 semifinalist at River Oaks, will be playing the event for the fifth time. The Spaniard will pair with fellow countryman Marc Lopez in the doubles draw. The pair come in to the tournament as the reigning French Open champions.
The Lopezes join the six-time champion Bryan Brothers as early commitments in the doubles field. Bob and Mike Bryan have won 112 titles together, including 16 at Grand Slam tournaments. The twin tandem has finished as the ATP’s No.1 doubles team 10 times in their career.
